On Monday 3 August, The Ashdown Forest Foundation was informed of a data breach affecting our database software provider, Beacon CRM.

Beacon CRM cannot confirm whether The Ashdown Forest Foundation’s data was affected. In line with our Privacy Policy, we are therefore taking a precautionary approach and informing our supporters of this potential breach. We have reported the incident to the Information Commissioner’s Office and taken all actions advised by Beacon CRM.

  • What happened: On August 3, 2026, Beacon informed us that an unauthorized third party gained access to its systems using compromised credentials. Beacon has confirmed that copies of database backups were made and likely downloaded.
  • What data is involved: While investigations are ongoing, we must assume that the information stored in our Beacon database may have been accessed. This may include your name, email address, phone number, postal address, and/or history of interactions with us. Please note we may not hold all of this data for every individual.
  • What is NOT involved: Crucially, this system does not hold your bank account details, credit card numbers, or any other financial information. Those payment credentials are held securely elsewhere and are unaffected.

Beacon CRM has taken immediate steps to secure its systems and prevent further access. It is conducting a forensic investigation with external specialists, law enforcement agencies and regulators.

We encourage you to remain vigilant for potential scams or unwanted emails. We will provide further updates if relevant information becomes available. In the meantime, you do not need to take any specific action.

We are extremely grateful for your continued support. We sincerely apologise for any worry or concern this incident may cause.
