Ashdown Forest is embarking on an exciting project to help visitors access the Forest and the Ashdown Forest Centre – and you can be part of it!

In 2025, the Conservators of Ashdown Forest plan to create an accessible pathway and information gateway at the Ashdown Forest Centre, and develop other initiatives to support people from all walks of life to spend time in our magical landscape. The Ashdown Forest Foundation is committed to supporting them in that vision.

The benefits of spending time in a natural environment are becoming better known, but many people are unable to do this because of lack of access to the natural landscape. This project means that people with disabilities or other access needs, school groups, and families with small children will find it much easier to visit us and learn about the Forest’s unique environment and wildlife.

The walkway will be designed to fit in with the Forest environment so as not to disturb the natural landscape and wildlife, and will be accessible all year-round. The first stage will be the creation of a welcoming “information gateway” at the Ashdown Forest Centre in Spring 2025, followed by works to complete the accessible pathway by the end of the year.

The pathway is also planned to include a viewing platform so that visitors can take in the amazing views across the Forest.
